Housing accommodation to suit varied lifestyles is found in the community. Over a quarter of Goderich’s area is dedicated to park land providing a constant source of enjoyment for residents and visitors alike. The town’s street network provides easy access to shopping, schools, churches, libraries, the arena and all other community services. Goderich offers a unique blend of housing including fine older homes, stately heritage houses and modern subdivisions. Goderich has a diversified industrial base with numerous industries producing and/or providing a wide range of products and services. Main industries include fabrication, salt mining, newspaper printing, grain storage and handling, dimension lumber production and supply, aircraft painting and servicing and tourism. Serviced industrial land is available in the town’s industrial park.
One of the largest industries is the Sifto Salt Mine, a dynamic salt mine spanning miles beneath Lake Huron.

Tourism is an important community industry. Lake Huron’s shore at Goderich’s doorstep provides a beautiful beach network, complete with developed picnic facilities and a wooden boardwalk approximately a kilometre in length which joins up with the Maitland Trail and Menesetung Walking Bridge which towers over the Maitland River. All sorts of recreational opportunities are available including swimming, boating, windsurfing, fishing, golfing, tennis, hunting, camping, curling and cross-country skiing, to name a few. The Maitland Recreation Centre-YMCA offers an indoor
swimming pool, hockey arena, state of the art exercise equipment, two gyms, walking track and more.
