Wellington County has a relatively small, specialized niche market (Subsidized Market) which is catered to largely by Heritage House Retirement Residence, developed by the County for a number of less advantaged residents. Domiciliary care for these eligible for retirement homes is currently set at $60.00 per diem, and there are ongoing negotiations with Wellington County to further increase the per diem rate to adjust for inflation.
The nearby amenities are many including service commercial outlets, grocery stores (Food Basics, Loblaws, Longos, etc.), medical offices, Shoppers Drug Mart, fast food restaurants (Harveys, Tim Hortons, Dominos, Wendys, Starbucks, etc.), full service restaurants (Swiss Chalet, Milestones, Sunset Grill, Kelseys, The Keg, etc.) Canadian Tire and an LCBO and Beer Store.
Adjacent districts are Orangeville to the north, Kitchener/Cambridge to the west, Halton Hills/Milton to the East, and Brantford/Hamilton/Burlington to the south. Many retail, services and restaurants are located 3-10 minutes away, while Guelph city centre is located 12 minutes away from Heritage House.
A development on the south side of Guelph has reached within 0.5 miles from Heritage House. Assumptions are it will take within 2-5 years to add a water line. There is also the potential to build a 3rd wing of the retirement home which would significantly contribute to the resident capacity of the building.
